Sky High Team Program
Sky High's team program is organized to give your child(ren)
the opportunity to experience the joy and benefits of gymnastics while
becoming part of our "family" of team athletes. Each gymnast will be
given the opportunity to strive for the chance of a lifetime whether it is
a spot on a U.S.A. National Team or a college scholarship or simply
building valuable self-esteem. Finally, Sky High's staff is committed to
giving each individual the opportunity to reach the ultimate goal: "to be
the best they can be."
Children are taught in a progression system, which
stresses preparation before competition, showing them the importance of
basics, strength, flexibility, dance, balance, coordination, and the value
of a self-disciplined regime of training, in becoming a complete gymnast.
Emphasis on the values of responsibility, teamwork, dedication, and goal
setting are part of our daily training.
We offer state of the art equipment for our gymnasts and
a unique style of training.
The Colony Gymnastics Academy is
dedicated in providing a program that gives athletes the opportunity to
shine in the sport of gymnastics. It is evident in the method in which
our recreational level program is structured and evaluated in accordance
with USA Gymnastics guidelines.
Levels 1 through 4 are designed to teach athletes the proper
technique for many skills that will become the building blocks for higher
level skills. The skills developed in these levels improve physical
dexterity, strength, agility, and flexibility.
Some gymnasts already show the desire
and ability to excel in gymnastics by the age of four. To provide proper
training, The Colony Gymnastics Academy may select these young athletes to
join our Developmental Team. By combining athletes of similar abilities
and interests, coaches are able to provide a more intense training program
than our recreational track.
At the completion of our developmental
team program, an athlete may be invited to join our Team program. Once
an athlete has been chosen to our team program, the athlete is committed
to train and compete during USAG
and/or TAAF seasons. Gymnasts
begin to compete at various meets including local, regional and national
events. Training with the team requires a solid dedication from the
gymnast, as well as the parents and families of the athletes.
The Colony Gymnastics
Academy uses a Non-Profit Fundraising club (Parent's Club) to help with
the costs of competitive gymnastics.
* All Levels of our
"Developmental Team" and "Team" programs are by invitation only.
* All
compulsory levels are invited to participate in one out-of-state
invitational meet per year as selected by Sky HIgh's team staff.
The Competitive Experience
Our philosophy at TCGA is
for a gymnast to enter the competitive program when he or she is ready to
compete and not before. Besides the obvious safety reasons, we want
their competitive experiences to be positive and rewarding. It is
vitally important to place a gymnast in a level that will provide a
challenge. Yet also, one that will provide the opportunity for
success. Generally, gymnasts feel much better about themselves when
they experience success regardless of level.
Bad competition
experiences lead to attrition in our sport and we want to keep that to a
minimum. Careful evaluation goes into considering a gymnast for
competition. We are looking for boys and girls who are physically
ready in terms of strength, flexibility and have mastered certain required
skills. The other and most important area is their mental readiness.
One of the biggest hurdles that a gymnasts will face in this sport is
overcoming fear. Our coaches will provide them with the
guidance and necessary tools to help the gymnast understand and deal with
their fears and anxieties. Mental preparedness is a key ingredient
to become successful in this sport.
